Bridal
jewellery India
No bridal outfit would be complete without ornate jewellery,
and when it comes to Indian bridal jewellery the obvious
choice is gold. In India, marriage and jewellery are inseparably
interlinked. Jewelery has many connotations, both aesthetic
and ritual. The wearing of jewellery is supposed to endow
the women with qualities of power and authority, as well
as great beauty.
Usually, for pre-wedding functions like sangeet, mehendi
and engagement simple and light jewellery such as silver
and gemstone jewellery is preferred. On the wedding day,
the bride is adorned with jewellery from head to toe. The
trend today is of customizing wedding jewellery to match
with the wedding outfits.
Rings are the most traditional form of wedding jewellery
for both men and women, and universally symbolizes a marriage
between two individuals. In Indian marriages, the additional
adornment of a 'mangal sutra' or 'thaali' (a small gold
pendant worn on a thread or necklace ) is the main symbol
of matrimony.
People from different communities prefer different styles
of jewellery. For example, a conventional Punjabi family
might prefer chunky or heavy jewellery with coloured gemstones,
whereas Marwaris and Sindhis usually prefer diamond jewellery.
Nowadays, women prefer contemporary designs and traditional
designs presented in a sleek and stylish manner. Traditional
or modern, the varieties of Indian jewellery available are
numerous and the choices limitless.
